Resources for Catholic Voters in Maryland
This may be a midterm year for elections, but it’s an important year in Maryland. Voters are choosing who represents them in the U.S. Congress, as Governor, and in the state General Assembly. Other state and local offices also are on the ballot.
Your choices have impact so it is important to really consider the issues and candidates. To help you, the Maryland Catholic Conference has prepared election resources for Catholics that include:
- Key dates for registering to vote and voting
- What our Catholic faith says we should consider when discerning issues and candidates
- How to check that you are registered to vote and, if not, who can and how to register
- Candidates’ positions on key issues (we encourage you to use this as one resource)
Election Resources for Parishes
Participating in public life is a responsibility of Catholics. That’s because decisions by our legislators impact human dignity.
Pope Leo XIV recently said, “We cannot remain as unengaged spectators; rather, we must listen with our hearts, allow ourselves to be challenged, and become involved.” (Sept. 2026)
This Catechism of the Catholic Church also addresses our obligation to participate in public life. Here are just two examples:
“’As far as possible citizens should take an active part in political life.” (Catechism, 1915)
“Submission to authority and coresponsibility for the common good make it morally obligatory…to exercise the right to vote.” (Catechism, 2240)
Resources available for parishes include:
- What Catholic parishes can and cannot do during an election
- Bulletin announcements
- General intercessions for Mass
- Catholic quotes about engaging in public life
- Graphics for bulletins, emails and websites
- Prayers
- USCCB resources for Catholics in political life.
