Kate S. Alexander
Director of Communications & Engagement
Kate Alexander joined the Maryland Catholic Conference in January 2017 as the Associate Director of Advocacy and Outreach and in December 2018 became the Director of Communications and Engagement. Raised in both the Catholic and Protestant faiths, Kate is driven by a lifelong belief in the teachings of Christ and in the power of every individual to influence their government for good.
Kate is an award-winning writer and decorated orator who brings a diverse set of skills to her role with the Conference. Kate’s career history includes work in healthcare, education, journalism, public relations, graphic design, web development, and political advocacy – the bulk of which she spent as a political journalist covering politics and government in the states of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Nevada and West Virginia. Here at the Conference, Kate works to organize a strong grassroots movement among Maryland Catholics to defend the vulnerable and the voiceless, oversees a growing statewide network of volunteers who help mobilize our state’s more than 1 million Catholics to action, and provides the creative vision for all Conference’s materials.
Kate has a passion for health and wellness that she brings to her work on behalf of Maryland’s most vulnerable citizens. She recently obtained her Master of Science in Nutrition Education from American University in Washington, D.C., a degree that combines graduate work in advocacy and public education with scientific coursework in the field of nutrition. She has brought that knowledge and passion to the Conference by spearheading the development of the Conference’s first comprehensive education initiative. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Mass Communication from Shepherd University in West Virginia, where she captained the university’s Debate and Forensics team to numerous national championships.
When Kate is not in the office, she enjoys getting outdoors hiking and running, a good bottle of wine, and spending time with her family and beloved schnauzer, Tessie Loo. Kate is a parishioner at St. Rose of Lima in Gaithersburg.
